In college, I took commercial photography. I was in the last class that learned the *zone system* and full-stack darkroom techniques. We were also the first class to learn digital techniques and digital printing.
Working in the darkroom (both colour and b/w) I learned a lot about image manipulation, exposure and light techniques. I really miss darkrooms. In ironic foreshadowing, I was barred from attending my Photoshop classes as I refused to wait for the instructor to explain every menu option before we got to try it. Having already used various image editing applications of the day (DeluxePaint II anyone?) and many years of computer use, the beginner classes were too slow. So, I arranged to install a copy of Photoshop on my computer at home and complete my studies there.
